Welcome to the New Year!
It's hard to believe that it is already 2011. I don't know where the month of December went. After Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the 4th graders jumped into their study of rivers and how they can change the surface of the Earth. They built river systems using 2 liter bottles, paint trays, sand, and water. It was amazing to see all the different formations that occurred with both slow and fast-moving water.
The 2nd graders were also busy learning about sound. They had several labs where they investigated what caused sound, how sound traveled, and how to change pitch and volume. Their culminatng activity was playing a song on the "BoomWhackers", which I think they thoroughly enjoyed.
To start the new year off, I had the great opportunity to visit with Mrs. Konik while she was teaching science to Mrs. Bongiorno's class. It was enjoyable to go through the river system review with the class, and I was so happy to see how much the students remembered from before the winter break. The students had a chance to draw a large scale river system, and then act out the different parts of the river. Our students are definitely multi-talented!
